Support Status, Call, and Update

Anyway, jokes aside, this is going to be a long post, I plan to cover a lot of things related to the CPL support. Before I get to that I would like to take a moment to thank everyone who has contributed to the league, either as a one off donation or as pledging monthly support. I would also like to assure everyone that CPL is not going anywhere, regardless of whether it receives any (additional) support or not! The league will keep coming back and we do not plan to change that.

This post will include my personal reflection on the webapp as a whole, details on the maintenance cost, and my hopes and wishes for the future along with support a support goal to which I would pledge to support the webapp more actively than I have been doing so far. Before we talk about any support, however, I feel it is important to understand where the funds are going.

To cover maintenance cost for the webapp I need around $15/mo. As of the time of writing this post, I have two monthly supporters for a total of $13/mo and, honestly, this is pretty good. We do not really need more support, so a big thank you. Reaching such support means that I do not have to pay out of my own pocket to secure the cplbw.com name available for the league to use, and we can buy some cheese for the hamster to keep it happy and running in its hamster wheel, ensuring that the server stays online.

The webapp has come a long way from my initial vision: to be a private, staff only tool that automates some of the league management tasks. The webapp grew to a full-scale league management system (that still requires a lot of input from our league staff and team admins), an interactive tool for the players, a learning material repository, a gamba hub - for the biggest of the CPL degens, a replay and map repository, and more... Honestly, even in my wildest dreams I would not have thought that I would make this system (and still be supporting it 5 years later). This is all done thanks to you, you made this possible by giving me motivation (and endless pings on discord) to keep this alive and to keep working on new features!

As well as the CPL management in here, I have been helping out other FBW leagues as much as I can and whenever I am needed. CSL is one good example for that. For other leagues, I cannot reveal details yet, but hopefully you will know soon enough.

Support goals

For those that are interested, I have two support goals in mind:

1. $15/mo. Reaching this goal would mean that we can keep the webapp alive with community support only, and we would not need to fund it ourselves

2. $40/mo. This is my personal goal, I would love to reach this, so I can justify some of the time I spend on webapp development and support. If we can reach it, I pledge to invest at least 2 hours a month to keep developing new things, answering your calls for improvements to the webapp, polishing existing features, etc.

   So far, I have developed everything out of passion for the foreign BW community and, for what it is worth, I will keep doing so, but adding new features, modifying existing ones, and chasing bugs when they inevitably appear takes time. Right now, I spend time on the webapp whenever I feel like it. If we reach the goal, I will no longer be a free agent, I and I will work for the community with more deterministic availability.

3. Bonus $40+ If we reach this, any surplus will go towards organizing showmatches, paying for translated guides, contributing to other FBW prize pools on behalf of the whole CPL Community, etc. I will do my best to offer full transparency with where the funds from this surplus go.
